Lyndhurst-Hill

The name came to me one day when I was walking up to our house, the property has a little hill in it and the original street address was Lyndhurst Road. Hence the name Lyndhurst-Hill was born.

We moved to Dayboro in 2004, planning to have a little bit of a hobby farm and become a little bit self-sufficient, by starting a veggy patch, run a few cows, use rain water for EVERYTHING, recycle our sewer and make sure our rubbish is kept to a minimum.

A few years on, we grow our own veggies, eggs and meat. Waste is treated on site, and the garbish bin only needs emptying every three weeks.

Working the land and the animals, I always wondered how hot it would be, how much rain we would get, and how much wind there would be.

So time to get serious about this weather stuff. Time to build something........

About the owner

I am not really technical minded, but ready to give everything a go, after a lot of trial and error here are the results. There is enough information about me available on the internet, newspapers and some documentaries. Non are weather related, apart from some local newspapers.

Weather is not something I use in my profession or know much about, for this reason if there is something wrong on this site, or slander someone let me know.

Typical climate

Located near Queensland's southeast coast, Lyndhurst-Hill has a warm, climate with both maritime and continental influences. Rainfall is fairly generous, averaging over 1200 mm per year. Late summer is the wettest time, with many afternoon thundershowers, and occasionally even tropical cyclones from the Pacific.

Late winter is usually the driest time, with many fine sunny days, though rain still falls at least a few times a month. Summers are hot and humid with highs often near 30 C and lows about 20. In some years westerly winds can bring very hot, dry air with highs near 40.

Winters are cool to mild, with highs 17-25 and lows 5-15, though on rare occasions southwest air streams can bring lows near freezing, especially inland.

About This Station

The station is powered by a Vantage Pro weather station. The data is collected every 2.5 seconds, the site is updated every 5 minutes using Weather Display Software. The station comprises of an anemometer, rain gauge and a thermo-hydro sensor situated in optimal positions for highest accuracy possible.

Lyndhurst-Hill Weather station is collecting weather information on a 24x7x365 basis. The data collected is transmitted to our office server and from there it is transmitted to several weather sites and weather organisations for statistical analysis and evaluation.

Dutch Digital Dynamics uses the data to analyse the best options for Green Energy such as wind energy and/or solar, and recently to determine the trade-off between wind energy and solar energy.
